Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Bola Tinubu has called on global leaders to embrace multilateralism and reject protectionism to ensure sustainable peace and stability.
Speaking at a high-level peace and security meeting during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, President Tinubu emphasized that current global challenges, including food insecurity and armed conflicts, can only be addressed through partnerships built on mutual respect and inclusivity.
The Nigerian president praised the African Union’s efforts, particularly the *Silencing the Guns Initiative*, which has been vital in promoting peace across the continent. He also lauded China for its contributions to Africa’s development through initiatives like the Belt and Road and FOCAC.

President Tinubu stressed the need to address the root causes of conflicts—such as poverty, inequality, and injustice stating that true peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, equity, and economic opportunity.
He reiterated Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to promoting peace, good governance, and security in West Africa and emphasized ECOWAS’ dedication to good governance, humanitarian aid, and peacekeeping efforts.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s leadership role in fostering regional stability and its commitment to building a more prosperous and secure West Africa.
