Day 5: Rivers’ Residents Continue #Endbadgovernance Protest

Protesters continued their protests in parts of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Monday, Day 5 of the #Endbadgovernance protest, calling on President Bola Tinubu to reduce the price of petrol to cushion the hardship in the country and to cut the cost of governance.

They said that the president did not speak to the hardship being suffered by Nigerians, pledging to sustain the protest for the remaining five days if the president fails to address their concerns.

The protesters were peaceful and had been addressed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara in front of Government House, Port Harcourt (on the first day of the protest) and the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Federal Secretariat along Aba Road.

The organisers of the protest had declared their readiness to return to the Federal Secretariat, along Aba Road on Monday, distributing flyers to communicate their intention after carrying out a protest on Sunday to continue their demonstration.

On Monday, there were some protesters in some parts of Port Harcourt, but some protesters obstructed the flow of traffic, forcing motorists to fix green leaves on their windshield, and asking business people to close their shops and join the protest.

In the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, hoodlums, who are not part of the protest, seized the opportunity to loot shops by storming the targeted shops in large numbers and fleeing before an organized resistance against them.
