CP Itam champions all inclusive policing system in Anambra

The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, restated his policing Plan that is poised to operate an all-inclusive policing system to hear from everyone and anyone that will help the Security Agencies in enforcing the law and maintain public order and safety in the state. Itam made this remark on June 6, at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, where he hosted the Vigilance groups and relevant security outfits in the state. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, the Commissioner Commended the Vigilantes and security outfits for their commitment, dedication, and selfless service in assisting the Police to nip crime in the bud in the State.

He however frowns at some of the abnormalities observed within the communities among the vigilantes like illegal detention of suspects, mob actions, illegal security levy, and assault on suspects among others. The state police boss then advised the security operatives not to allow themselves to be used against one another, especially in the Community they are expected to protect. The statement reads: “The Police boss has pledged greater cooperation of officers and men of the Command to the legitimate and recognised security outfits in the state.

“He also proposed the creation of a state policing model anchored on the platform of the Police Community Policing Committee that will accommodate all security outfits to police the state so as to harmonise the sharing of intelligence information.” During the interactive session, the security operatives expressed satisfaction and stated their concerns which the Commissioner of Police addressed. Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunne, thanked the Commission of Police and noted that this is the first of its kind in the state and seeks for such continuous engagements like this.
