Court Remands Trader For Stealing In Plateau

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State has sentenced Ahmad Umar, a 19-year-old merchant, to two years in prison for trespassing and stealing a security safe from a petrol station.

The Magistrate who presided over the case, Shawomi Bokkos conducted a summary trial and sentenced the offender after he pled guilty to the allegation.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Ijuptil Thawal, told the court that the case was reported to the “A” Police Station in Jos on January 7 by one Cecilia Ali, according to the complaint.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant trespassed into the gasoline station office and stole the safe, which contained N361,000, before being apprehended.

The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

However, the Judge provided the convict the alternative of paying a five-figure sum of N100,000.
