The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Aba, Abia State, has berated the House of Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa for alleged display of arrogance and complete disregard for the rule of law.
The group said Emeruwa had no right not to inaugurate Aaron Uzodike as the duly elected representative of Aba North, having been declared the winner by the Court of Appeal and given a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uzodike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party (LP) contested the 2023 Aba North House of Assembly election. Destiny was declared the winner of the election by the INEC but Uzodike approached the tribunal to challenge his victory. The Court of Appeal Lagos in the judgement it delivered on November 27, 2023, nullified Nwagwu’s election.
The court ordered the immediate withdrawal of the certificate of return earlier issued to him. Ever since that judgement, Emeruwa has refused to swear in Destiny, stressing that the court did not ask him to do so.
