CCN visits Pacelli, tasks govt on citizens’ welfare

The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) Lagos State Chapter has tasked political leaders on prioritising welfare of the citizenry amidst the economic situation. CCN, a bloc under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), made the appeal during its annual humanitarian visit at Easter to the Pacelli School for the blind and partially sighted children in Lagos. The chapter Chairman, Archbishop Olafimihan Samson Adekoya, said it would be better if the government looked at an holistic way of ameliorating hardship for the benefit of all instead of the idea of palliative. Speaking with Sunday Telegraph, Adekoya stated: “We tagged the programme humanitarian visit. It is an annual programme to give to the less priviledged in accordance with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 25 verses 34 to 40.

‘He said for I was hungry and ye gave me meat etc then the righteous will say when did we see you hungry that we did not give you food?’ The Lord responded ‘once you have done to one of the least one among you have done it for me.’ This is the principle behind the humanitarian visit carried out by Christian Council of Nigeria Lagos State Chapter. “This year we visited Pacelli School for the blind and partially sighted children, Surulere, Lagos and we decided to pick school uniforms for them which we feel could be the need of the children. We are using this opportunity to reach out to our leaders particularly now that our economy is not friendly.

They should find a way to ease things for all and sundry instead of spending huge capital on the palliatives that they know cannot go round.” In her response, Matron of Pacelli School for the blind and partially sighted children, Sister Rosette Lirfe HHCS, appreciated the visit and called for other members of the public to render help to the children revealing that the school survives on charitable acts as it does not charge for the children’s education.
