The former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called for an investigations into the remote cause of the Maiduguri flood to avoid future occurrences.
Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after he paid a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum at Government House, Maiduguri on Sunday, over the recent flood that ravaged the Borno State capital Atiku said, “The causes of the flood must be investigated to know the causes of the flood with a view to provide remidial measures to avoid future occurrences”.
The former Vice President also donated the sum of N100 million to the victims of the flood and prayed that God grant the souls of those who list their lives eternal life.
“You can see the typography of the Maiduguri the state capital is swampy I think a study need to be carried out to determine the remote causes to avoid future occurrences”, Atiku said.
While commeensurating with Governor Zulum he said, “I am here to commensurate with you and the good people of Borno state over the unfortunate flood disaster that resulted into the dead of many lives and property worth million of Naira destroyed.”
The former Vice President said “What affects Bormo affects me This is a monumental disaster that never witnessed in the state before.
“Many lives were lost .I want to let know, that we are with you, you are not alone in the rebuilding of Bormo ”
“As part of my contributions to the rebuilding process I want to announce my own donation of N100 million.”, he added.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and grant them external lives, adding the grief of the people of Bormo is his grief.
Responding on behalf of the government and people of the state, the Bormo state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum thanked the former Vice President for the sympathy visit over the recent flood an SD the donation.
