Bullion Van Attack: Ogun Places N50m Bounty On Killers Of Govt Accountant

Ogun State Government on Friday announced a reward of N50 million for anyone who offers information that could lead to the arrest of the killers of its Director of Finance and Administration, Taiwo Oyekanmi.

New Telegraph recalls that Oyekanmi was murdered in Abeokuta on November 29 by gunmen who attacked a bullion van conveying government’s money.

Our correspondent gathered that the government accountant had picked up a sum of N112 million from Fidelity and Sterling banks’ branches in Abeokuta and was heading back to the office at Oke Mosan, when the home-made bullion van conveying him and the money was waylaid by the gunmen.

The hooded gunmen, about five of them, reportedly hijacked the bullion van while ascending the overhead bridge at Kuto and opened fire on the accountant.

It was further gathered that the hoodlums wielding sledge hammers broke the bullion van door and went away with the government’s money.

Oyekanmi was rushed to the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, where he reportedly died.

Remains of the deceased had already been buried with Governor Dapo Abiodun giving security agencies a marching order to smoke out the killers.

However, more than one week after the murder, no arrest has been made.

But, on Friday, the government made a public announcement, placing a bounty of N50m on the killers.

In the announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, the government assured that information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
