…tasks agencies to make budget proposals coherent, purpose-driven
Preparations have begun in earnest for the 2025 fiscal year budget, with the issuance of Budget Call Circular to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) budget officers to study in detail to avoid mistakes.
The Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Mallam Tanimu Yakubu tasked MDAs budget officers on Tuesday in Abuja at the commencement of training of MDAs on 2025 budget preparation.
The workshop is for the training of Budget Officers on Government Integrated Financial Management Information System Budget Preparation Sub-System (GIFMIS/BPS) for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Appointed in June to replace Mr. Ben Nwabueze’s immediate past DG budget, Tanimu enjoined MDAs, to study the Budget Call Circular in detail and avoid making erroneous mistakes that should ordinarily be avoided if they had complied with the relevant sections of the Call circular.
He charged them: ” Emphasis will be made in one of the modules this year on key items and sections to note in the 2025 FGN Budget Call Circular. For the avoidance of doubt, we have the BOF Helpdesk running at full capacity currently to take care of all queries and questions that Budget Officers may have during the preparation of their respective budgets”.
” Today’s training represents a crucial step in addressing these challenges and ensuring that the 2025 budget aligns with the expectations of the Nigerian people”, he said.
Tanimu said the quality of the country’s national budget had been a longstanding concern, with stakeholders often questioning the relevance, execution, and effectiveness of our budgetary proposals.
“Today’s training offers a critical opportunity for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to reflect on their roles in the budget process. Together, we can ensure that our budget proposals for 2025 are not only robust and focused but also aligned with our national priorities”
“This is our moment to demonstrate to the Nigerian people our steadfast commitment to delivering a budget that genuinely meets their needs while upholding strict fiscal discipline. As we prepare the 2025 budget, I urge all MDAs to stay true to their mandates”, Tanimu charged them.
He added that the 2025 executive budget proposals must be coherent and purpose-driven, embodying the government’s vision for security and development.
