Governors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have decried the deteriorating security situation in the country.
The governors under the umbrella of the PDP Governors’ Forum, at their first meeting after the inauguration of the present administration, condemned the destruction of lives and properties in Plateau and Zamfara States.
All the 13 governors of the party, except Rivers State governor Sim Fubara, attended the meeting.
The state chief executives in a communique by Chairman of the forum Bala Mohammed, called on “the Federal Government and security agencies to rise to the situation and bring the situation under control.
“In the interim, the forum would cooperate with the Federal Government on issues concerning the welfare of Nigerians and good governance while striving to maintain the independence and autonomy of the forum through offering constructive criticisms where necessary.”
Mohammed who is also governor of Bauchi State, equally advised “the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the security agencies, and the Federal Government to be neutral in the conduct of the off-season elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States.”
He disclosed that PDP governors resolved to work together, noting that “the aim of the forum is to provide a platform for peer review of issues, policies, programmes and achievements …of member-governors across the PDP states.”
The meeting was the first by the governors after the presidential primary in May last year, which polarised the party.
The situation got worsened following the post-election crisis after the sacking of the National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, by his ward, which was upheld by a High Court in Benue State.
Governor Mohammed however denied that the situation in the party was discussed at the meeting.
