BREAKING: EFCC Invites, Grills Ex-Benue Governor, Ortom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Office on Tuesday invited and grilled immediate-past Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom for questioning over his stewardship.

The former Governor who got to the anti-graft agency’s office at exactly 10:07 am, was accompanied by some of his former aides including Mr Abraham Kwaghngu, his Principal Special Adviser on Special Duties and Mr Terver Akase, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity among others and was interrogated for several hours.

Ortom who was at the EFCC’s zonal office, located along Gondo Aluor street, a few metres away from the government house, Makurdi, walked straight into the edifice and met with the agency’s authorities where he was held hostage for over three hours at the time of filing this story.

New Telegraph had earlier reported that Ortom had handed over a debt profile of N187.56 billion to his successor, Rev. Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

He said that the total income that accrued to the state within the eight years of his reign from all sources including Statutory income, Value Added Tax (VAT) Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as well as other FAAC incomes including Grants, Refunds and Loans) was N734.96 billion as at 30th April, 2023.

Governor Hyacinth Alia recently raised the alarm over the massive looting of government houses by the Ortom administration, a development he said has left him with no single car or a truck to use as governor.
