The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi on Friday declared a special afternoon day off to celebrate Letsile Tebogo, who recently became the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist in the 200-meter event.
Tebogo’s historic victory is a significant achievement not only for Botswana but also for Africa, as he is the first African athlete to secure gold in this prestigious event.
Announcing the development in a statement issued on its official X account by his Permanent Secretary, the President extended his congratulations to Tebogo, calling on all citizens to join in celebrating this remarkable milestone in Botswana’s sporting history.

“His Excellency, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, has announced an afternoon day off for all Batswana and residents today, Friday, August 9, 2024, to honour Letsile Tebogo.
