Boost For Live Theatre As When Mirrors Invert Goes On Stage

For thespians and theatre lovers in Abúlé Egbá and its environs in Lagos State, ‘Jàre Adébáyo Productions is set launch a project aimed at providing live theatre entertainment in a community fashion, with the stage production of Adeoye Shobakin’s ‘When Mirrors Invert’.

Produced and directed by Jare Adebayo, and set to be staged at the SoRite Cinemas, Beckley Estate, July 27 and 28, ‘When Mirror Invert’, is a ‘romcom’ (romantic comedy) which deals with family life.

“We consider it very important at this point in our recent history due to the large failure of our family system, which has a grave ripple effect on the larger society.

More importantly, this is the first time the play will be worked through the stage,” Adebayo said, dtressing that this is a good opportunity for theatre lovers on the mainland, especially Abúlé Egbá and its environs, to experience and enjoy theatre.

“This will also introduce live theatre to people who have never seen a theatrical production, as well as create job opportunities for thespians in and around Abúlé Egbá.”

According to him, in the bigger frame, they hope to make “Abule Egba a hub for thespians and other kinds of artists, the way Bariga and Surulere are to Theatre and Film, the way Ìsolo and Musin are to Fuji Music, back in the days.

“We are confident that Abule Egba has enough capacity to become a major hub for theatre and arts generally, despite being one of the more underrated neighbourhoods in Lagos State.

“We are, therefore, localising the Theatre Experience series, so that the people and brands around here (Ogba, Agege, Dopemu, Egbeda, Ìyana-Ipaja, Aboru, Ajasa-Command, Ekoro, Alagbado, Alakuko, Ijaye, Iju, Isaga, Fagba, and Abule Egba can identify with it, and eventually own it as ‘our own’ community theatre. Our first show is a production of Adeoye Shobakin’s ‘When Mirrors Invert’.
