Agbo Ochekpe, Permanent Secretary in the Benue State civil service on Tuesday tender his resignation after issuing an introductory letter without following proper procedures.
The letter was for a family member who secured admission to the University of Kinshasa, Congo, after being introduced to him by a pastor.
The Benue State Head of Service (HoS), Agbogbo Ode, clarified that the resignation was not due to allegations of corruption but was a case of “pure ignorance.”

Despite rumours suggesting that Ochekpe was sacked, the HoS confirmed that he voluntarily resigned.
According to Ode, Ochekpe issued the letter without consulting the Commissioner or seek proper approval, admitting his mistake and apologised.
“He accepted responsibility and has submitted his letter of resignation,” the HoS said.
In a similar vein, the HoS announced the suspension of a Director of Planning and Research in the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives for his involvement in a missing transformer.
The state government also suspended four other senior staff members over allegations of vandalizing a transformer at the Secretariat.
The HoS emphasized that the Benue State government would not tolerate indiscipline from any worker.
