Benue PDP Crisis: We’ll Unite Ortom, Suswam – Caretaker C’ttee

The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee in Benue State, Senator Napoleon Bali has said the committee will resolve the crisis in the state chapter.

Recall that the state chapter has been recently dogged by a crisis leading to the suspension of two former governors, Samuel Ortom and Gabriel Suswam by different factions of the party in the state.

PDP National Organising Secretary Capt. Umar Bature (retd.) explained that the party had successfully conducted its ward congress before it was stopped from conducting local government congresses by court order.

Bature said the tenure of Benue executive expired on August 8, necessitating the inauguration of the 17-man caretaker committee headed by Senator Bali.

Bali who is a retired air vice marshal (AVM), assured that his committee would unite PDP members in Benue State.

“As a retired general, we are well taught about conflict management. It is not a question of Ortom or Suswan, but by the grace of God, together with all these members of this committee (we) are going to unite them.

“Conflict management is just a matter of give and take; we shall look at the issues and address the issues. This is what conflict management is all about,” he stated.

PDP acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum advised the committee members to shun sentiment and selfishness and to put party interest above personal interest.

Ambassador Damagum told the committee that they have a daunting task before them, adding that their duty is to usher in a new executive committee in Benue State.

“We all know the crisis there that led to our bad outing during the last election. You are to correct that anomaly that made us lose that state, which is predominantly a PDP state,” he added.

He disclosed that both the Chairman and Secretary of the committee are not from Benue State, and enjoined them not to disappoint the people that nominated them.
