Bello Family Takes Possession Of Over 1.310 Hectares Of Land In Ile Epo, Lagos

In compliance with a judgment of a Lagos State High Court, beneficiaries of the properties of late Ajayi Bello, have taken possession of a vast expanse of land measuring approximately 1.310 hectares located at Oke-Odo, beside Ile Epo market, along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State.

The legally recognised beneficiaries in a peaceful exercise witnessed by security agents and court bailiffs took possession of the land. The exercise was sequel to the judgement of Justice Y. G. Oshoala of a Lagos High Court delivered in favour of the claimants, Olusola Odetola, Sherifat Soyoye (nee Bello), and Kehinde Shehu (Nee Bello).

The claimants, had in suit number ID/8649LMW/2019 prayed the court for an order of perpetual injunction against the defendants; David Famuyiwa, Akinwumi Odeyemi, Olugbenga Sogbamu ( for themselves and on behalf of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Government Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State and Alimosho Local Government Council.

The claimants being the beneficiaries of the properties of their late father, Ajayi Bello, who died intestate many years ago, under Yoruba Native Law and Custom in their amended statement of claim, stated that the defendants trespassed into the disputed land.

The Claimant tendered before the court Survey Pian No. WAT/ LA/28944 dated 6th June, 1985, and layout plan which were admitted as exhibits, and also led evidence that they wrote a petition complaining of the trespass to the Executive Chairman, Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA and to the Chairman, Lagos State Special Task Force.

However, the defendants denied in their pleading that they trespassed on the Claimants land contending that the Claimants should have contacted the police over the displaced marketers who invaded their land.

Besides, the defendants denied instructing anyone to invade or demolish the Claimants’ properties, but admitted that it engaged the services of Total Value Integrated System Limited to reconstruct the Oke-Odo market within its perimeter.

Delivering judgment, Justice Y. G Oshoala held the defendants did not deny receiving the letter written to Executive Chairman, Agbado/oke Odo LCDA dated October 9, 2018 and there was no response to that letter.
