Bauchi Tribunal Upholds Dachungyang Election

The National Assembly Rerun Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Bauchi on Wednesday in a landmark judgement reaffirmed the election of Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) as the duly elected Senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly.

The three-man tribunal panel, led by Justice Cordelia Ogadi, dismissed the petitions filed by Shafi’u Sahlan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Ambassador Chris Giwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lack of merit.

The tribunal’s verdict validated the February 2024 rerun election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang and the ADP as winners.

The petitioners had contested the outcome of the rerun election, but the tribunal’s exhaustive judgment, spanning over three hours, found no substance in their claims.

In upholding Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang’s election, the tribunal has put to rest any doubts about his mandate, reinforcing the will of the people of Plateau North.

You will recall that the petitioners filed their petition following the outcome of the rerun election for Plateau North Senatorial District conducted on February 03, 2024, in which the 1st Respondent, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the 2nd Respondent (Senator Pam Mwadkwon Dachungyang) and the 3rd respondent, the ADP winners of a keenly contested election.

Senator Dachungyang while reacting to the Judgement told New Telegraph in Jos that decisive judgment is a testament to the integrity of the electoral process and the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and fairness.
