The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has protested against the high cost of nomination forms sold by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) for the August 17 council election.
Chairman Khalid Arewa yesterday also criticised BASIEC for fixing a date for the election without adequate consultations, notifications, or regard for the constitutional guidelines governing the electoral process.
According to him, the ZLP observed that BASIEC failed to provide the requisite 60-day notification period as stipulated in the constitution.
He further said that the ZLP as a major party in the state was not consulted or informed about the arrangements and timelines for the elections, contrary to established protocols and guidelines.
The party chief said: “The cost of nomination forms for the election is excessive and burdensome, with prices ranging from N120,000 to N250,000.”
