Barcelona Snap Up Rival LaLiga Defender On Free Transfer

Barcelona have completed the signing of veteran Athletic club defender, Iñigo Martínez.

The Spain international spent five years at San Mamés but first attracted interest from the reigning LaLiga champions last summer.

Martínez’s contract with Los Leones expired at the end of last month, allowing him to join the Blaugrana on a free transfer.

He becomes Barça’s second summer arrival after snapping up İlkay Gündoğan  after the midfielder also chose not to renew his deal at Manchester City.

Xavi Hernández’s side kick off their new season preparations against Juventus on 22 July in a tour at the United States.
