Nigerian Aviation on Thursday announced its plan to embarked ob a nationwide protest on August 21, 2024, in response to the Federal Government’s decision to deduct 50 percent from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of key aviation agencies.
The unions representing the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) announced the protest in a letter titled “Save Aviation From Collapse.”
The letter which was dated Tuesday, August 14, 2024, stated that, “All workers of the mentioned agencies, joined by the solidarity of all aviation workers, are hereby directed to embark on peaceful protests at all airports nationwide to demand the discontinuation of these deductions.”

The unions argued that the agencies, which are cost-recovery organizations rather than profit-making entities, cannot sustain operations with only half of their revenue.
The unions also warned that critical safety functions are being compromised due to the financial strain.
They emphasized that they will not be responsible for any potential dysfunction in the aviation industry resulting from these financial constraints.
All state councils, women’s commissions, youth councils, and union branches have been instructed to mobilize for the protest to ensure broad participation.
