Ataga’s murder: Security guard testifies at Chidinma, others’ trial

Further hearing in the trial of Chidinma Ojukwu and two others over the alleged murder of Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, continued yesterday before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of a Lagos High Court with the security guard at the short service apartment where Ataga was killed, Abubakar Mohammed, giving his evidence.


In his testimony, the security guard narrated the events that led to the renting of the apartment by Chidinma and how she was later joined by Ataga. He said he received a call from the owner of the apartment, Nkechi Mogbo, between 5.30 to 6pm on June 13, 2021, that a lady is coming to check the apartment.


According to him, the lady eventually came on that day and he showed her round following which the studio apartment was rented by her. Speaking further, the witness said:


“In the evening, around 10:30pm, one man came in a black Range Rover Jeep. My neighbour was doing party, so, I thought the man came for the party. I asked him to park well, the  the lady (the guest) opened the gate and said stop, he is my person, just open the gate.”


He told the court that Usifo and Chidinma stayed in the apartment from June 13 to June 15 and that on the last day, Chidinma went out of the compound, carrying a small bag and never returned.


The witness said he waited for her till around 12.30pm on the said day but she never returned to the apartment.


On how Ataga’s lifeless body was discovered, the witness said: “On Wednesday, around 12:30 p.m., waste collectors came to the street and I called the cleaner, named Confidence, to collect wastes from all the apartments.


“She came back with few empty bottles and told me that the door to the studio apartment was open. I told her to allow me finish and wash my hands. I went to the studio apartment and knocked several times without any response.
