The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has fixed September 28 for local government elections. In a statement on Monday, ANSIEC Chairman Genevieve Osakwe said the election timetable would be released tomorrow.

The last election was held in 2014 at the twilight of the Peter Obi administration. Successive administrations in the state have installed caretaker committees to oversee the 21 councils.

Meanwhile, over 200 persons have indicated interest in the nomination tickets of the major parties. In the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) about 63 aspirants, including the incumbent Transition Committee Chairmen, have commenced consultations.

A total of 52 aspirants are contesting the tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the All Progressives Congress (APC) having 52 aspirants and the Labour Party (LP) 42.
