Anambra Arrest 3 Over Illegal Sewage Disposal

Three persons were arrested for illegal Sewage disposal by the Anambra State government while one other suspect has been at large.

This is coming as the State government has concluded arrangements to engage more staff at the state and local government levels as sanitary inspectors in a bid to ensure a clean and habitable environment.

According to the Commissioner for Environment Engr Felix Odimegwu” the state government takes exception to the manner members of the public manage waste in our state and just recently we arrested three persons for illegal disposal of wastes but one person ran away and he is at large”

“The government of Anambra state has zero tolerance to illegal disposal of wastes and we have a special tax force that has been changed with the responsibility of arresting such culprits and bringing them to book and it is not the public but both government and private and public institutions”

“To this effect, we are going to employ more staff both at the local government and state level as sanitary inspectors and their duty is to ensure compliance to the Environmental rules and enforcement”

Odimegwu further announced that the government would be holding a Town Hall meeting of stakeholders with a theme; “Clean, Green, And Sustainable Anambra which means the communities taking ownership of their environment.

“The Town Hall meeting would involve the Nigerian Medical Association, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria which has to do with industrial waste management, Town Union leadership, faith-based organizations and those in the academia who would also educate and create awareness on the subject matter”

Odimegwu also said that the meeting is also part of the government’s drive towards fighting flooding and other forms of ecological disaster adding that the communities and their leaders are constantly being exposed to modern ways of erosion control.
