American Veterans Of Igbo Descent Writes Justice Nyako, Demands Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

A pro Igbo interest group, American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), based in Jacksonville, Florida and USA has written to Honourable Justice Binta Nyako handling the retrial of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to release him based on the earlier Supreme Court judgement that discharged and acquitted him.

AVID in a letter addressed to Justice Nyako by its Secretary, Dr Sylvester Onyia and Dr Godson Obiagwu, described the retrial as injustice and disobedience to earlier court judgement.

According to the group, “The judge’s refusal to comply with the Supreme Court judgment and the lack of
willingness to interpret the constitution fairly are truly embarrassing and humiliating for the judicial system, Nigeria, and the whole world.”

AVID contended that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom it described as prisoner of conscience, should have been taken to a correctional center, not kept in a Federal Government privately owned detention center where his conversations with his lawyers and family members were always monitored.

The group reminded the presiding Judge that his bias would not be looked upon favourably in history.

“Your actions show that you are following a script. Remember that you have no jurisdiction over this case. You have allowed the Federal Government to bring forth all sorts of charges against him, despite knowing he is innocent,” the letter reads.

It further noted, “The same prisoner was unjustly arrested and even after fleeing his home due to government invasion, he continues to face unjust imprisonment.

“His parents were also subjected to physical, emotional, and mental torture leading to their deaths. Injustice to Mr. Kanu is injustice everywhere.”
