President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Sunday, charged Muslim faithful in the country and in the Diaspora to be inspired by Prophet Muhammad’s virtues of harmony, love and service to humanity as they celebrate his birthday.
Akpabio made the call in a message to celebrate Muslims on the feast of Id el Maulud, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.
He said: “Distinguished Muslim brothers and sisters, on behalf of my family, constituents and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend warm felicitations to you all on the occasion of Eid el Maulud, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
“As you celebrate this important Muslim feast, I pray that this auspicious day brings peace, joy, and blessings to our great nation and the world at large. I enjoin you to imbibe the teachings of the Holy Prophet and be inspired to live in harmony, love and service to humanity.”
Also, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, urged fellow Muslims to use the occasion of Maulud to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Barau in a message to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), signed by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, described the noble Prophet as a role model to all.
“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings and follow his examples in our daily activities. Let us imbibe the lessons of compassion, peace and support for one another as preached by our noble Prophet,’’ he said.
He reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to continue to enact the necessary legislation to support President Bola Tinubu in tackling the country’s challenges.
Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, urged the Muslim community and all Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, stability and prosperity in the country, stressing the importance of unity in overcoming the challenges the nation faces.
Similarly, a former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, in his own message, enjoined Muslims to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.
He said: “On this auspicious occasion, I enjoin Muslims all over to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who brought a message of love, mercy, and forgiveness to the world.
“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet, let us strive to follow in his footsteps by being kind to our neighbours, helping those in need, and working towards a more just and equitable society.
“Eid-ul-Mawlid is a reminder of the common values that unite us as a people. I, therefore, urge Nigerians to use this celebration to bridge our differences and work together to build a brighter future for our nation.”
Furthermore, the Chairman of he Senate Committee on Privatization and former Governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Kalu, also congratulated the Muslim ummah on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Maulud in commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him).
Kalu who called on religious leaders to use their platforms to advocate peace and unity among Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious and political differences, stressed that Nigeria’s diversity should be explored for growth and development.
In a statement, the former Governor called on the Muslim community to use the season to pray for leaders at all levels of government.
He said, ” I join our Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and abroad in celebrating Eid-el-Maulud.
His words: “It is a sacred season to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed. I call on the Muslim ummah to sustain the teachings of the holy Qu’ran and exemplary qualities of the Holy Prophet Muhammed in their daily endeavours”.
