Aisha Yesufu Reacts As Two Abia Lawmakers Join LP

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist and co-covener of #bringbackourgirls on Thursday posited that the two Abia State House of Assembly members who just defected to the Labour Party (LP) ought to be prepared to lose their seats as well.

New Telegraph reports that two lawmakers from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia defected to the Labour Party (LP) on Tuesday.

Governor Alex Otti welcomed the defectors into the state’s ruling party including Mr Iheanacho Nwogu, who represented the Osisioma North State Constituency, and Mr Fine Ahuama, who represented the Osisioma South State Constituency.

Reacting to the defection via her official X handle, she wrote, “Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law.

“You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
