A’Ibom 2023: Choose competence over pecuniary benefits, Ide urges electorate

As the race for the 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State gathers momentum, Obong Ide Owodiong Idemeko a governorship hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made a passionate appeal to the voters at all level to shun immediate pecuniary gains and vote competent people into public office in 2023 to promote development and progress.

Ide, who made the remarks when he officially consulted the Chapter Officers of PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state, emphasized that he will bring his wealth of experience in administration to turn around the fortunes of the state if elected.

He noted that, he is coming into the race to make a difference in the style of governance by improving the quality of education, ensuring massive agricultural implementation/food sufficiency and real empowerment of citizens among other lofty goals.

Ide, who advocated for attitudinal change towards politics, also urged voters to remain vigilant all through the electioneering process to ensure that their votes genuinely count to preserve our democracy.

In his words: “The people of Akwa ibom should shine their eyes now, we must get it right to enhance our development and progress, we must strive to protect our democracy by ensuring that our votes count and we must choose competent people at all levels of public office against those with immediate pecuniary benefits.”

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Ekaette Owodiong idemeko, wife of the aspirant cited passion for service and the need to ensure a better society as the motivation behind her spouse aspiration to lead the state as governor in 2023.

According to her: “I sincerely acknowledged the enormous challenges that come with partisan politics, my husband right from his youthful days have had this intense passion to serve humanity and has been giving at every opportunity to those in need. I believe this platform will provide him with better opportunity to serve greater number of people by providing real development and empowerment across the state, he has my full support to contest and succeed in this coming governorship election.”

On his own the chapter chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibesikpo Asutan Council Area, Hon. Pastor Uwem Etim, who extolled the sterling qualities of the aspirant, prayed God to see him through the primaries and the general election up to Hilltop mansion, the official resident of Akwa Ibom governor.

“The good Lord who has stated a good job in you will make it perfect, we will stand with you through the race to the end in appreciation of what you have done for us in this community and the state,” he further emphasized.

Hon Eyakno Etukudo, a former member of the state House of Assembly described the aspiration of Obong Ide Owodiong as timely owing to his wealth of experience in administration and love for humanity.

Etukudo, who appealed to Akwa Ibomites to give Obong Ide their unalloyed support and votes said the aspirant whom he knows very closely has a good heart and remains compassionate mostly to the indigent members of the society.

Several speakers at the event mostly beneficiaries of Obong Ide Owodiong Idemeko’s benevolence took turns to explain how he put them through the tedious journey of life to make them breadwinners in their various families, calling on the people to support his aspiration to give him a better platform to do more.

Highpoints of the event which attracted thousands of supporters from the local government area was the massive prayers session conducted for the success of the aspirant and presentation of gift items such as assorted drinks, cow, cash to the party officers.
