Agwai Leads MBBT Delegation To Mutfwang To Strengthen M’Belt Peace Efforts

Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces and leader the of Middle Belt Brain Trust (MBBT), an initiative of the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT), has led a delegation to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang to enhance collaborative efforts in promoting peace and stability in the Middle Belt region.

The MBBT, comprising volunteer leaders with diverse expertise, is tackling the region’s complex challenges, including security, governance, economy, livelihoods, demographics, and resource management.

General Agwai stressed the importance of collective action in addressing conflict root causes, particularly land ownership and usage disputes.

The MBBT’s strategy focuses on reforming land management, strengthening intercommunity grievance management systems, boosting youth entrepreneurship, and increasing youth participation in peacebuilding and governance.

While responding, Governor Mutfwang expressed his support for the MBBT’s initiatives and emphasized the need for a collective approach to addressing the region’s challenges.

He promised that Plateau State Government is committed to working with the MBBT to pilot conflict sensitivity in policy making and implementation.

According to him, Plateau State partnering with MBBT will promote sustainable peace solutions in Plateau State and the Middle Belt, leveraging on local and international expertise.

The visit by members of the MBBT to the state has demonstrated a united commitment to peace and stability in the region, fostering a collaborative environment for sustainable development.
