AFAS Alumni Of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Urge Makinde To Boost Staff Strength, Others

The Global Alumni of the Association of Fine Arts (AFAS) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Nigeria, has urged Oyo State Governor and Moderator of the polytechnic, Seyi Makinde to give more attention to the Department of Fine Arts of the institution.

This is as they said the governor should employ more lecturers to the department to teach and train the students, as well as allow alumni staff to rise to higher cadres in the polytechnic management.

The alumni association of the department, which currently has over 200 registered members worldwide, with more still join ing, was inaugurated on Saturday, elected Gbenga Oladokun as Caretaker Chairman; Jide Oyeleye (Secretary); Olurinde Peters Jimmy, an advertising practitioner as Publicity Secretary.

Meanwhile, Gbenga Aremu, Mrs Yemi Ajewole-Alade, Femi Adeyinka and Wale Onakoya, are to man the Protocol Offices of the association in Ibadan, Lagos and the Diaspora, respectively.

Other members of the Caretaker Committee are Kunle Yakubu (Finance); Dr Sola Alimi (Protocol); Adedayo Sapoloso (Awards); Andrew Akinbodewa (Exhibition); Mrs Omolola Aduroja and Oluwole Omofemi.

At the inauguration where ‘Lifetime Achievement, Academic Excellence, and Long Year Service Awards were bestowed on some of the alumni, were the Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi, an alumnus of the polytechnic; the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, who were given awards of recognition. To add colour to the ceremony was the Oyo State Cultural Troupe, which thrilled the guests with their glowing performance.

Speaking, the Chairman of the association, Gbenga Oladokun, said that lecturers lamented the dearth of lecturers in the polytechnic’s Fine Arts Department, and appealed to Governor Makinde to employ more efficient hands and provide better infrastructure to bring back the glory the department enjoyed when he and other colleagues were students in the department several years ago.
