Adamawa: We never abandon Gombi Cottage Hospital – Commissioner

The Adamawa State government has reacted to a media report alleging that the 60-bed capacity Gombi Cottage Hospital awarded by the present administration has been abandoned. Speaking with newsmen during an inspection visit to the hospital yesterday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr Umar Garba Pella, described the report as baseless and unsubstantiated.

Pella said the project is in tandem with specifications as contained in the contract agreement. The commissioner revealed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri approved the construction of cottage hospitals in the three senatorial districts to alleviate the suffering of the residents of the area. According to him, the cottage hospitals are sited in Gombi, Lamurde, Shelleng and Girei and are expected to be inaugurated soon.

He said: “We have appointed consultants on all the projects, their report is positive as far as the progress and quality of the work is concerned. “What informed the insinuation that the project was abandoned might not be unconnected with the court order with regard to issues of compensation to the land owners, whichthegovernment is trying to sort out and vacate the order.”
