Resident doctors, under the aegis of the National Association of Residents Doctors (NARD) chapter of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, Kaduna State, have commenced a five-day warning strike.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Vice President of the hospital’s chapter of the association, Dr Ashiru Mikail, while addressing journalists in Zaria.
The warning strike, he told journalists commenced at early hours of Monday morning after the one-week ultima – tum given to the hospital management to resolve the nagging issues had expired.
According to him, the one-week ultimatum was given to the management of the hospital on July 15, and it expired on Sunday without the issues being looked into or addressed.
The union leader, however, said that if nothing is done after the warning strike, the association would again reconvene to review its strategy with a view to determining the next line of action. Mikail listed some of the association’s demands to include rejection of percentage salary payments for members on the GIFMIS platform, which calls for immediate repayment of parts of the doctor’s salaries earlier withheld.
