
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has launched the sale of federally subsidized rice in the State.
The development is aimed at combating food inflation and support residents of the state amid rising costs of food items.
New Telegraph reports that the Federal Government initiative is part of a broader food security scheme designed to alleviate the burden of increasing food prices on citizens.
Speaking at the luncheon, Governor Abiodun revealed that the subsidized rice sales will be rolled out across all the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, adding that other essential food items like garri and beans will be included.

The governor assured citizens that the distribution would be conducted fairly.
To ensure that, he noted that a well-structured template developed by the Office of the Head of Service and the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Security Adviser’s office.
Also for transparency, cash payments will not be allowed at sales points.
Instead, transactions will be processed through Point of Sales (PoS) machines, physical verification, and National Identity Number (NIN) checks to prevent fraudulent practices.
Abiodun stated that each 50kg bag of subsidized rice will be sold for N40,000, payable via ATM.
The scheme will cater to various groups, including civil servants, artisans, student bodies, market women, and religious organizations.
Subsidized rice sales for Ogun West and Ogun East Senatorial Districts will follow immediately, with outlets in Ilaro and Ijebu-Ode set to open soon.
Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by Ayo Ajayi, praised Ogun State’s template, suggesting the Federal Government may adopt it nationally.
Abiodun commended President Tinubu for initiating the program, ensuring its success through fair distribution.
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce food prices and bring much-needed relief to citizens.
