Abia APC Leaders Seek Unity Ahead Of 2027, Describe Kalu As Valuable Asset

The Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abia State have met to develop a template of sustainable unity for the party’s state congress and future elections even as they described Abia North Senator, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as a “Priceless Asset” to the party.

In a “unification” party meeting held at Camp Neya, the Senator’s country home, Igbere, in Bende LGA, the State chairman of APC, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu highlighted the indelible impacts of the former Abia Governor in moving the party forward describing it as indispensable.

Ononogbu explained that Kalu’s positive influence and fatherly roles have ensured that the party remained a force to reckon with in the State as he specifically narrated how Kalu’s intervention made him resolute in the face of infractions that almost forced him out of the party.

The party Chairman charged Local government and ward executives, on unity, bemoaning how lack of it caused the party losses especially in the last general elections, noting that the meeting was a forum to reignite unity among stakeholders in order to win other Senatorial zones and the Governorship seat in 2027.

He blamed the party’s foot soldiers for the woes, alleging that they spread rumours that pitched the members against the leaders and vice versa.

Ononogbu disclosed that Abia North Senator had always made invaluable contributions that helped the party to achieve its objectives, revealing that the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Chief Ikechi Emenike, recognizes him as the only two time Governor of the party and should be so honoured, not minding the differences.

He siad the time had come for the party to develop a template that would galvanize the different factions and support groups for a successful congress and victory in future elections.

In his remark, Senator Kalu directed loyalists of different stakeholders to participate in any political meeting he summons insisting that Ononogbu be obeyed as the chairman.

Kalu: “Nobody should disobey what the chairman has said , when you get to various wards make sure you hold meetings.

“Whenever you call for meetings ensure that all the factions attend and make sure you invite the party chairman. You have heard from the Party Chairman and the National Welfare officer you must seek peace.”

Kalu also lamented that fractionalization cost Abia APC loss of recent board appointments because different factions submitted names which were rejected in Abuja.

“I have always said that I don’t belong to any faction. From today, anytime I call for meetings both factions must attend and they will be treated equally.

“He also urged members of OUK Movement and Reality Organisation to work in synergy with the party chairman.

Former Chairman of the party in the State, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said the party was no longer factionalised in Abia State. Nwankpa, who currently serves as the National Welfare Secretary of the APC, expressed confidence in the State chairman and urged him not to align with any faction but reach out to all stakeholders for progress.

Nwankpa also commended Kalu’s representation at the Senate, describing him as the most performing, a grassroots and charismatic Senator.

He charged members and leaders to work for the party’s victory in 2027, saying, “In my tenure I produced APC Senators, House of Representatives Members and House of Assembly members, now the current Chairman is supposed to produce the next APC Governor of this state.”
