82,000 Nigerian Women Died In 2020 From Pregnancy, Childbirth-Related Causes –NGO

A Non-governmental Organisation, Maternal and Reproductive Health Research Collective, has expressed concern over the rate of women dying from pregnancy and childbirthrelated causes in Nigeria.

In a statement, it said in 2020, 82,000 Nigerian women died from pregnancy and childbirth-related complications. The group said: “There is a higher rate of deaths amongst low-income women in the community as they have less access to quality health care.

“We are committed to improving maternal health in Nigeria, developed an intervention to identify pregnant women, monitor them during ANC, and support those who couldn’t afford health care.

“#RunForHer campaign in 2023 created awareness of the high maternal mortality rates. So far 7800 women have been registered, and 79 per cent have delivered their babies in health facilities.

“This October, our #BecauseOfYou campaign is focused on the successes of the previous campaign and will create more awareness as we plan to reach more women through our programs.”
