Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has called for an investigation into the administration of the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, particularly concerning the use of a $75 million World Bank fund intended for the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) initiative.
The former Governor made the demand on Thursday during the presentation of the Certificate of Return to the Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who is set to take over from Obaseki when his term ends on November 11.
During the event, Oshiomhole expressed his excitement that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had reclaimed Edo State, following the defeat of Obaseki’s preferred candidate, Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the recent governorship election.

He said, “God has brought him (Okpebholo) to rescue Edo people, restore integrity, rebuild our schools, and employ teachers so that parents don’t need to contribute money to pay teachers.”
He further criticized Obaseki’s handling of the education sector, questioning the success of the EdoBEST initiative, which was financed by the World Bank. “All the fraud that Obaseki was doing with the so-called World Bank money.
“The World Bank will want to investigate what he did with that money when you have schools without teachers, and you are doing EdoBEST. He left Edo worse.”
Oshiomhole concluded by affirming that Senator Okpebholo’s election marked a turning point for Edo State, saying, “Edo people cannot wait to see a new approach to governance: government of the people, by the people, and for Edo people.”
