Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State has ordered the remand of Kabiru Arewa, 33, in a correctional facility for allegedly killing his 24-year-old wife, Suliyat.
Arewa, whose residence was not supplied, has been charged with murder on Friday, May 31.
The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, refused to accept the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.
He, however, asked the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance before adjourning the matter until June 28 for mention.

The Prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, had previously informed the court that the defendant committed the offense on May 22 at approximately 8 p.m. in Ibadan’s Olunloyo neighborhood.
Igori claimed that the defendant unlawfully caused his wife’s death by striking her in the chest with his fist.
He stated that the offense violated Section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
