‘25 Years After, Nigeria Yet To Experience True Democracy’

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, yesterday lamented that after 25 years of continuous civilian rule, Nigeria is yet to imbibe the true spirit of democracy, but appealed to political leaders to play the game according to the rule in order to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Ajadi in a statement yesterday to mark the country’s Democracy Day, said since the last 25 years of democratic rule, leaders are yet to play according to the rule, adding that the June 12 presidential election globally accepted to be the freest and fairest election in Nigeria won by late Chief MKO Abiola, symbolises true democracy, in which late Abiola laid down his life for the civilian government Nigerians are currently enjoying.
