23-Year-Old Woman Steals Baby In Adamawa

A 23-year-old woman simply identified as Maryam Sani has described how she stole a day-old infant from a hospital bed in Adamawa State.

New Telegraph gathered that Sani stole the baby from a clinic in Ngurore, a hamlet in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state.

Maryam confessed to reporters that she had a miscarriage three months into her pregnancy but did not notify her husband, so she needed to have a baby when her purported pregnancy reached full term.

She explained that when she went to the clinic for a check-up because she was feeling ill and found herself in a ward with no one around, she spotted a chance to grab a baby from a bed whose mother and other people were asleep outside.

“I didn’t carry the newborn baby girl for any evil reason. I took her because I loved her and needed her for myself,” she said.

She further stated that when she took the kid home, no one suspected her of anything because she seemed to be ‘pregnant’.

“The community believed I was pregnant and we did the naming ceremony without my husband knowing how the baby actually came about,” Maryam said.

Maryam’s fraudulent motherhood ended when she was arrested when her biological parents reported the incident to the police, who conducted an investigation that resulted in her detention.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, Adamawa State’s Police Public Relations Officer, has assured that the woman will face the law and answer for her crimes.

“The command will never allow criminals of any type to have a field day in Adamawa State, and Maryam will be duly prosecuted,” Nguroje said
