The 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League matchday one ended on Thursday night, September 19, with some unexpected results across Europe.
The most unexpected result was recorded in the Champions League clash between Spanish La Liga giants, FC Barcelona and French Ligue 1 side, Monaco.
Coach Hansi Flick, who recently said he and his team are set to win the UCL, was stunned 2-1 by the French side at the Stade Louis II.
Barcelona looked like a team that would have beaten Monaco if they didn’t play with a man down from the 10th minute of the encounter after Eric García was red-carded.

The biggest win on the night was recorded at the De Kuip, where German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen defeated Feyenoord 4-0. Nigeria’s Victor Boniface, who made his Champions League debut in the encounter for Leverkusen, wasn’t on the scoresheet.
At Gewiss Stadium in Italy, the Premier League side, Arsenal, led by coach Mikel Arteta couldn’t do much against Atalanta as the match failed to produce any goal. In-form Ademola Lookman of Nigeria couldn’t break down Arsenal’s resilient defence.
