Two minors have been swept away and over 1,000 residents displaced in Kaduna, following torrential rainfall in parts of the state which led to flooding and devastation.
The flooding took place in Kafanchan and other communities in Jema’a Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State. Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Mrs Christy Usman, who disclosed this while reviewing the Kaduna State Impact Assessment Committee on Flood during their tour of affected communities in Southern Kaduna, the LG boss gave the names of the communities affected as Kafanchan Municipal, Jagindi, Atuku, Aso and Bade wards, adding that the flood also washed away farmlands destroying crops worth millions of naira in the process.
She said even though the flood has affected many people in Jema’a Local Government Area economically and otherwise, many residents were happy that, the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, has responded by sending the committee chaired by the Chief of Staff, to the Governor Malam Sani Liman Kila to assess the impact of the flood. She said, “We are happy that the governor is reacting to the plight of the people.
We know, with this visit, compensation is coming and relief is coming for the victims of the flood disaster.”
