14 Die, 9 Injured In Early Morning Lagos Accident

No fewer than fourteen people including a female child were in the early hour of Sunday killed and nine others injured in an auto crash that occurred around Buhari Estate in the Agemowo area along the Badagry expressway, Lagos.

The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Babatunde Farinloye confirmed the accident to the New Telegraph on Sunday afternoon.

The FRSC boss blamed the accident on overspeeding from the drivers of the two affected vehicles, despite the early morning rainfall.

The early Sunday accident created serious traffic on the busy road as the vehicles, which were involved in the accident blocked a large part of the road.

It was gathered that the accident involved a fully-loaded commercial bus with Registration No MUS 411XU and a tipper truck with Registration No AKM 926YQ.

Eyewitnesses around the scene of the accident said that the two vehicles were driving in opposite directions when they had a head-on collision.

A resident of Mowo, who simply identified himself as George told our correspondent that he arrived at the scene immediately after the accident occurred.

He added that “I don’t know which vehicle was going which way but what I heard was that they collided, while on top speed.

“I got there around 7:40 but those who were around the scene of the accident said that it happened about ten minutes earlier “the resident added.

Meanwhile, nine people who survived with varying degrees of injuries were rescued and taken to the hospital while the dead bodies were deposited at the Badagry General Hospital morgue.

The Lagos FRSC commander stated that the obstruction on the road was cleared for the smooth movement of vehicles.

He also warned drivers in the state to desist from overspeeding.
