12th Convocation: ABUAD Highlights Research Breakthroughs

The Vice Chancellor of the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde said the institution has made a significant breakthrough in the manufacturing of drugs using natural plants without chemical additives.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the ivory tower has also commenced production of a 124-unit Industrial Park and food production such as Garri, Poundo Yam, Fufu, Ogu, and drug manufacturing.

Olarinde stated this on Monday in Ado Ekiti at the press conference heralding the 15th anniversary and the 12th convocation ceremonies of ABUAD.

She also revealed that the chairman and chief executive officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa will on Saturday, October 19, 2024, deliver the convocation lecture titled: “Diaspora Engagements for National Development as part of
activities lined up for the ceremony

The Vice-Chancellor announced that 1662 students would graduate this year. The total number of students with first class, is 226, while 693 get second class upper honour, 350 second class lower and 33 third class.

The breakdown of statistics of the overall graduating students, according to the Vice Chancellor are” 338 from Engineering, Law (244), MHS (228), Sciences (203), SMS (269), Post Graduate (177), Part Time( 20), ABUAD Business School (22) and MBBS(161).”

Smaranda added that three eminent Nigerians, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Mr Damien Dodo (SAN) and founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, Lagos will also be conferred with the honorary degrees of the private university.

She stated that the honorary degrees are not awarded based on relationship but simply on merit, saying, “We based our evaluation on fact not by hearsay evidence

“Honorary Degrees anywhere in the world are awarded on a high basis to persons of proven integrity and character, who have made exceptional and distinguished lifetime contributions to the society”.

“The ABUAD Multisystem Hospital dialysis centre has also continued to serve patients from all over southwest and beyond with an average of 400 dialysis sessions every month”.

“Commencement of production at our 124-unit Industrial Park and the attendant employment of members of the community in food production such as Garri, Poundo Yam, Fufu, Drug manufacturing and many more.

“We set up the Bogoro Research Center for the manufacture of drugs. So far, we have developed three drugs: Virucidine, an immune system burster syrup Natucidine (an anti-ageing herbal supplement) and AB- Mai (an anti-ageing malaria capsule). These drugs are natural, plant-based with no chemical activities”. The Vice-Chancellor said.
