A coalition of over 1,000 northern groups has distanced itself and the entire Northern region from a planned nationwide protest against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement signed by Comrade Danladi Usman and made available to newsmen on Sunday, at the end of an emergency meeting, the groups drawn from the 19 Northern states described the move as ill-conceived and counterproductive .
According to Usman, the groups after a critical assessment of the situation unanimously agreed to support the administration as it was on the right path.
He said: “We wish to categorically distance ourselves and the entire Northern region from the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1.
“We reject the call for protest and urge our members and the general public to shun the rally, which we believe is ill-conceived and counter-productive.”
